THIS part is pretty easy too, even if you’ve never done any niche research in your life. Here’s all you need to do… Let’s say you went with a program on Commission Junction that was in the telecommunications field, a pay per lead program that pays $15 per lead.
To earn the $15, our visitors are required to sign up for a free trial of a phone service that allows them to listen to their voicemail without calling their phone or being home. This offer is great because the service is unique, and visitors aren’t required to buy anything for us to make money.
This is why PPL like I said programs are great. Your visitors are not required to buy anything for you to get paid, meaning you’ll earn commissions a lot more often. First, we’ll want to use Google’s Keyword Tool to generate a bunch of keywords for us.
For instance, let’s enter “voicemail” into the keyword tool and see what we get. You’ll want to scroll down to near the bottom of that list and find keywords that still have some green in the “search volume” column and look for related voicemail keywords, such as these…
The circled green portion of the results that has green in it shows that these keywords are good to use. But do not forget, depending on your region, Google may have “exact” search term numbers now. If that’s the case, then any search term that doesn’t have the phrase “insufficient data” is a typically good keyword to target, as long as it isn’t too broad. As we look through the list, we find only a few relevant keywords. Maybe you will see these keyword:
internet voice mail
check voicemail online
online voice mail
voicemail wav
etc
All the rest are unrelated to the product we’re trying to generate leads to. Now what’s next? Use common sense here. If someone is searching for “ForPublisher’s Voicemail” they’re probably not looking for an internet voicemail service, so it’s not a good keyword to target!
Once we have those initial few keywords, we’ll now go back up to the top and search each of those keywords to generate more longtail results. From the “Internet Voice Mail” keyword alone we generate well over 20 keywords that we can use, all that have a fair amount of searches every month as represented by small amount of green they have in the bar.
From the “internet voicemail” keyword alone, maybe you can produce 20 long tail keywords that we’re more than capable of writing about. If you read the list, you’ll see that sometimes the keywords are remarkably similar…for example, there’s “voicemail over the internet” and “voice mail over the internet.”
Don’t worry about this. They count as separate keywords and it doesn’t really matter that they’re similar. What about competition? Do not worry too much about it. Just use common sense.
A keyword like “voicemail” is going to have a ton of search results, whereas the long tail keyword “voice mail over the internet” isn’t going to have as many. That’s why you have to search for long tail keywords.
We only have an hour per day to work with here, so we have to work quickly. Wasting time worrying about competition instead of taking action isn’t necessary. We need to take action, instead. Do you agree?
Don’t dwell too much on the keywords. Use common sense to figure out which keywords will work the best. Now, let’s create your landing page which will push your Commission Junction product or service.
